Penny Farthing Cyclists, Fowey, Cornwall. August 1992

Approaching the Bodinnick Ferry are these penny farthing cyclists en route for Plymouth to raise funds for Macmillan Nursing Charity. The penny farthing trip was first staged in 1982 when it was started by St Ives solicitor Mike Clough and has become a biennial event. The cyclists stayed in Golant Youth Hostel the previous evening, having peddled from Truro. Their final destination was Brittany, where they raised money for a French cancer charity. Jackie Milburn, Jim Turney, chairman of Turney-Wylde and vice chairman of Blyth Spartans, and Drybroughs Northern League chairman Arthur Clark.
As part of a ¿3, 000 sponsorship deal by the Northern League and Jim Turney a brand new football would be given to each losing team in the Turney-Wylde Cup ties by either Jackie or Jim.

Copthall Stadium, Hendon, Barnet, Greater London. A portrait of the EPL sponsored javelin thrower Lynn Hayhoe at Copthall Stadium.
EPL, the Plant and Access Hire company within the Laing Group, first sponsored Lynn Hayhoe in 1986 providing all her javelins and tracksuits and t-shirts. Lynn was based in Barnet and joined her local athletics club, Shaftesbury Barnet Harriers on leaving school. they were based at the Copthall Stadium near Laing's Mill Hill headquarters. Lynn won the javelin event in the Hertfordshire Women's Championship for a record eight consecutive years between 1982 and 1989. Lynn set a new club record of 51.16m to win the Inter Counties Championship in 1989 and rose to 6th in the UK and competed for England at Gateshead in August that year with aspirations to compete in the 1992 Olympic games. Lynn featured in two stories in Team Spirit, the Laing company newsletter, in August 1987 and February 1990
