Stamp Card produced by Ottmar Zeihar - Iran (Persia)
Stamp Card produced by Ottmar Zeihar - Iran (Persia). These cards enabled collectors to see stamps which they were unable to obtain, or afford. There is a complete set of 180 cards, some of the smaller countries had a very low printing run and are hence very rare. Used Zeiher cards are very hard to find as the embossed stamp design was not approved by postal authorities as it confused the function of the proper stamps! Date: circa 1904

America - The Stamp Act - Celebrating the repeal of the Act
America - The Stamp Act - Celebrating the repeal of the Act of March 22, 1765 in May 1766 with The Liberty-Pole Festival. The Liberty Pole was known to be a symbol of dissent against Great Britain. The Stamp Act tax was imposed on all American colonists and required them to pay a tax on every piece of printed paper they used. Ship's papers, legal documents, licenses, newspapers, other publications, and even playing cards were taxed. This act was highly unpopular, and its repeal was greatly celebrated as this print shows.
