Sunni, a term that encompasses various aspects of history, culture, and religion. It represents a diverse range of experiences and perspectives within the Muslim world. One significant event in Sunni history was the massacre of Maronite Christians by Druze and Sunni Muslim paramilitary groups during the 1860 Mount Lebanon civil war in Damascus, Syria. This tragic incident highlighted the complexities and tensions that can arise within religious communities during times of conflict. Moving to a different geographical location, we find ourselves near Delhi in 1891. The Tomb of Altamsh stands tall as a testament to the architectural prowess of this era. Its grandeur reflects the rich heritage left behind by those who practiced Sunni Islam. Delving deeper into history, we come across an intriguing portrait from around 1550: Selim I. Painted with oil on canvas, this depiction captures one individual's connection to Sunni Islam during an era marked by political upheaval and expansion. Shifting our focus towards contemporary life, we encounter a Dagestani man dressed in traditional attire associated with Sunni Muslims. His clothing serves as both an expression of cultural identity and religious affiliation - showcasing how faith intertwines with everyday existence. Continuing our exploration through India's vibrant tapestry, we meet Kharal - a Soonnee Mahomedan from Mooltan - captured beautifully in J's "The People of India" series. This snapshot offers us glimpses into the lives led by individuals practicing Sunni Islam amidst their agricultural pursuits. Intriguingly contrasting these rural scenes is an image depicting an Islamic adventurer known as Mahdi meditating inside a cave. This portrayal highlights not only spiritual devotion but also showcases how individuals have sought solace or enlightenment throughout history within various branches of Islam such as Sunnism. Taking another step forward into time brings us face-to-face with Mullik Morad and Ahmedshere – Sipah Afreedees, Soonnee Musulmans from Kohat.
