"Thick Knee: A Fascinating Bird Species from Around the World" Birds have always captivated us with their beauty and diversity, and one such intriguing species is the Thick-knee. With its unique appearance and behavior, this bird has caught the attention of many nature enthusiasts. Dating back to c. 1860, a stunning color litho showcases the Head and Foot of Thick knee, revealing intricate details that make this bird truly remarkable. One variant is the Spotted Thick-knee, also known as Burhinus capensis or Cape Thick-knee. This adult bird stands amongst volcanic rocks in an endemic subspecies called Eurasian Stone-curlew (Burhinus oedicnemus insularum). In Sri Lanka's Yala National Park, we encounter the Great Thick-knee resting on dry mud during February. Its elegant presence adds charm to its surroundings. Another species found in Sri Lanka is the Indian Stone-curlew (Burhinus indicus), where an adult pair sits gracefully on grass. A captivating sight unfolds when a male Great Thick-knee stands at water's edge while his female counterpart rests nearby. Their companionship creates a beautiful scene against Sri Lanka's backdrop. The Senegal Thick-knee makes its mark in Gambia during February by standing proudly on mud or even displaying leucistic characteristics amidst mangrove swamps—a testament to nature's wonders. Traveling all the way to Melbourne, Victoria in Australia brings us face-to-face with another member of this fascinating family—the Bush Thick-knee sitting diligently on its nest during November. And finally, witnessing a Senegal Thick-knee adult with two chicks basking in early morning sunlight at their nest fills our hearts with joy and admiration for these incredible creatures.
