"Troie: A Tale of Ancient Tragedy and Triumph" Step back in time to the legendary city of Troie, where heroes and gods clashed in a battle that would shape history. From Achilles' lament for his fallen comrade Patroclus to the Greeks climbing out of the infamous Wooden Horse, these captivating moments come alive through various artistic mediums. In "Achilles Lamenting the Death of Patroclus, " an intricate pen and ink drawing captures Achilles' grief-stricken face as he mourns his dear friend's demise. The delicate washes on paper add depth to this poignant scene, evoking raw emotions that resonate across centuries. The Newnes Pictorial Book of Knowledge brings us an illustration depicting "The Greeks Climb out of the Wooden Horse. " Litho techniques breathe life into this iconic moment when Greek warriors emerge from their deceptive hiding place, ready to unleash destruction upon unsuspecting Troy. Moving beyond drawings, a 16th-century Maiolica plate showcases "the burning of Troy. " Here we witness Aeneas carrying his father Anchises on his back while Ascanius stands by their side. This ceramic masterpiece immortalizes their escape amidst flames, capturing both heroism and familial duty. Venturing into frescoes, we encounter a lunette titled "Aeneas Fleeing from Burning Troy Carrying his Father Anchises Followed by Ascanius Carrying his Mother. " Painted in 1596 within the Camerino walls, this vibrant artwork transports us into Aeneas' desperate flight from destruction with loved ones in tow. An Apulian red-figure volute crater reveals another facet of Trojan tragedy - Achilles sacrificing Trojan prisoners at Patroclus' funeral. This detailed pottery piece offers a glimpse into ancient rituals surrounding death and honor during times of war. "The Abduction of Helen" takes us back even further with its gouache depiction from around 1500.
