Waglers pit viper
Wagler's pit viper (Tropidolaemus wagleri). This snake is one of the most common pit vipers in Borneo. It is generally very docile but is capable of delivering a painful, if not fatal bite. It has a broad triangular head with a pit organ in front of each eye. The pit organs function in detecting heat given off by prey, which may be small mammals or birds. The viper measures between 60 and 100 centimetres in length. Photographed in Nako National Park, Sarawak, Malaysia
