This print showcases Braxton Bragg, a prominent Confederate general during the American Civil War. Created by J Rogers, this engraving beautifully captures the essence of General Bragg's commanding presence. Bragg served as the commander of the Army of Tennessee in the western theater from 1862 to 1867. Known for his strategic prowess, he achieved a significant victory at the Battle of Chickamauga in September 1863. However, his fortunes took a turn when he faced defeat at Chattanooga just two months later. As a result, he was relieved of his field command and reassigned as a military advisor to Confederate President Jefferson Davis. The artist skillfully portrays General Bragg in his military uniform, exuding strength and determination. His stern expression reflects both the weight of responsibility on his shoulders and an unwavering commitment to defending his country. This historical artifact is part of volume III of The War with the South: A History of the Late Rebellion by Robert Tomes and Benjamin G Smith. It offers us a glimpse into one man's role in shaping America's turbulent past during this pivotal period.
