This print showcases the exquisite craftsmanship of Indian metal work, embroidery, weaving, and painting in 1898. The unknown creator has beautifully captured various artistic forms in this collection. Figures 1 to 4 highlight the intricate details of an Ancus, a tool used for driving and training elephants. The chiselled iron instrument (Fig 1) is followed by pendants and buttons embossed in gold and chiselled (Figs 2-3). Fig 4 displays an enamelled Ancus adorned with jewels, showcasing the opulence of Indian artistry. Moving on to Figs 5-9, we are presented with stunning decorations from enamelled arms that exhibit a harmonious blend of colors and patterns. Fig 10 features a state parasol embellished with rich gold embroidery, exuding regality. The print then delves into embroidered fans (Figs 11-13), showcasing delicate craftsmanship. Fig 14 displays a covering for the foot woven in gold and embroidered silk and pearls – a true testament to Indian textile mastery. Fig28 offers us a glimpse into portion of book cover done using lacquerpainting technique. Finally, Figs29and30 present beautiful illustrations taken from illuminated manuscripts. This remarkable plate captures India's rich heritage of ornamentation across diverse mediums - truly reflecting its artistic prowess during that era.
