Jose Maria Galvez. Notable speaker and politician born in Matanzas in 1835. He was the author of the booklet Independence of Cuba (1869) Parallel (1869) in which he defended the independence. He presided over the Autonomist Liberal Party, from 1878 to1898; was chairman of the cabinet in the Autonomist party and died in 1906.
