EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases two remarkable horse studies by the legendary artist Leonardo da Vinci. Created between 1490 and 1510, these exquisite drawings are part of the Trivulzio Monument collection found in the Royal Library at Windsor Castle, England. On the left side of the print, we see "Three Horses" from around 1508-1510. These horses are depicted with incredible attention to detail, capturing their majestic presence and grace as they walk. The use of blue color adds a touch of vibrancy to this Renaissance masterpiece. On the right side, we have "Two Horses" dating back to around 1490. This earlier study reveals Leonardo's meticulous exploration of equine anatomy and movement. The silverpoint technique used here creates a delicate yet precise rendering that highlights his mastery as an artist. Giovanni Giacomo Trivulzio is credited with commissioning these magnificent works from Leonardo da Vinci himself. Their collaboration resulted in these stunning representations that showcase both artistic brilliance and scientific observation. As we gaze upon this photo print, we are transported back to fifteenth-century Italy, where Leonardo da Vinci's genius flourished amidst a backdrop of architectural marvels and cultural renaissance. It serves as a testament to his enduring legacy as one of history's greatest artists and thinkers.
