Loading a Palletising Machine with Bricks, Whitwick Brickworks, Coalville, Leicestershire, 1963
EDITORS COMMENTS
. In this photograph taken in 1963 at the Whitwick Brickworks in Coalville, Leicestershire, we witness a dedicated worker engaged in the laborious task of loading a palletising machine. This intricate machinery was instrumental in efficiently stacking finished bricks onto pallets for transportation. Whitwick Brickworks occupied a strategic location to the west of Whitwick Colliery and greatly benefited from its proximity to the Leicester-Swannington Railway extension. The railway line ran east of the colliery and facilitated easy transportation of these essential building materials across Britain. The image showcases an industrious man amidst his daily routine within this bustling factory environment. His commitment to his occupation is evident as he meticulously loads each brick onto the palletising machine. With determination etched on his face, he plays an integral role in ensuring that construction projects throughout England are supplied with quality bricks. Photographed by Michael Walters from Paul Walters Worldwide Photography Ltd. , this monochrome snapshot encapsulates not only an era but also represents British industry during the mid-20th century. It serves as a testament to hardworking individuals who contributed their skills and expertise towards shaping our country's architectural landscape. Although Whitwick Brickworks closed its doors later in the 20th century, this poignant image immortalizes both its workers' dedication and their vital contribution to Britain's industrial heritage.
