EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures a significant moment in automotive history - Sir Malcolm Campbell's bid for a new record in 1935. The creator of this remarkable image remains unknown, but their skillful composition perfectly encapsulates the excitement and determination surrounding this groundbreaking event. In the photograph, we see Sir Malcolm Campbell standing proudly next to his iconic Bluebird car at Brooklands in Surrey. This snapshot was taken after the vehicle underwent extensive rebuilding before its journey to Daytona Beach, Florida, where Campbell would attempt to set a new land speed record. On March 7th, 1935, with the powerful Rolls-Royce Schneider engine propelling him forward, Campbell achieved an astonishing speed of 276.816 mph. This incredible feat solidified his place as one of Britain's greatest sportsmen and cemented Bluebird's legacy as an engineering marvel. The image not only showcases Campbell's indomitable spirit but also provides us with a glimpse into the world of motor racing during that era.
