EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the grandeur and historical significance of St Pancras Public Baths in Kentish Town, Camden, Greater London. The main entrance block and public hall of this former establishment are showcased from a picturesque south-east angle on Prince of Wales Road. Originally opened in October 1901, the St Pancras Baths were a testament to Victorian ingenuity and provided a haven for recreation and sport. With two men's pools and two ladies' pools, it was one of only three baths in all of Britain that offered first and second class pools exclusively for women. This pioneering feature made it an iconic landmark during its time. Over the years, these baths underwent transformations to cater to changing needs. Renamed as the Kentish Town Sports Centre, they received extensive refurbishment starting from 2008 before reopening their doors in 2010. The photograph showcases the stunning red brick architecture with blue accents that characterizes this Grade II listed building. Its corner location adds further charm to its visual appeal. Today, while no longer serving as public baths or sports facilities, the Prince of Wales Road public hall block has been thoughtfully converted into apartments. This image serves as a reminder of both our architectural heritage and how buildings can adapt over time while retaining their historic essence.
