Andres Hurtado de Mendoza, 3rd Marquis of Canete (1500-1561), was a prominent Spanish military and political figure during the 16th century in the Americas. Born in Spain, Mendoza rose through the ranks of the military to become a trusted advisor to the crown. In 1545, he was appointed as the fifth Viceroy of Peru, a position he held until 1552.
