Anna Ivanovna, born Anna Leopoldovna of Mecklenburg-Schwerin, was the younger surviving daughter of Emperor Ivan V of Russia. She ascended to the throne in 1730 upon the death of her cousin, Peter the Great, and ruled until 1740. Anna's reign was marked by political instability and conflict, as she faced challenges from various factions vying for power.
