The image, known as the "Cottingley Fairy Case - Arthur Conan Doyle with Fairies," is a fake. The Cottingley Fairies case refers to a series of photographs taken between 1917 and 1920 by two young girls, Elsie Wright and Frances Griffiths, in the village of Cottingley, England. The girls claimed to have captured images of fairies in the woods near their homes. These photographs gained widespread attention and belief, even among skeptics, due to the convincing appearance of the fairies in the images. Arthur Conan Doyle, a well-known spiritualist and believer in the supernatural, was among those who were convinced by the Cottingley Fairies photographs. He wrote an article in the Strand Magazine in 1920, expressing his belief in the authenticity of the images. However, the truth was eventually revealed. In 1981, Elsie Wright confessed that the fairies in the photographs were actually cut-outs from a children's book, manipulated and placed in the scenes using a camera trick. The photograph of Arthur Conan Doyle with the fairies was also found to be a fake, with the author's image pasted onto an earlier photograph of the girls.
