This striking photograph captures the sleek lines and powerful presence of a Hispano HA-1109 K1L Buchon fighter jet of the Spanish Air Force, parked on the tarmac in 1951. The Buchon, also known as the Spanish Me-260 or the C.1, is a licence-built version of the German Messerschmitt Me 262, the world's first operational jet fighter. The Spanish Air Force received their first deliveries of the Buchon in 1948, following the end of the Spanish Civil War and the subsequent restoration of diplomatic relations with Germany. The Buchon was a formidable addition to the Spanish Air Force's arsenal, with a top speed of over 500 mph and advanced features such as a retractable landing gear and a pressurized cockpit. This particular aircraft, with the serial number 94 27, is shown in pristine condition, its wings gleaming in the sunlight and its engines ready for action. The Buchon saw combat during the Spanish Civil War and later during the Moroccan War in the late 1950s. It was eventually replaced by more modern jet fighters in the 1960s, but remains a significant part of Spanish military aviation history.
