British models bring the London look to Paris, 1966

A group of four British models pose for the camera in Paris in the Boulevard St. Germain, 1966. They had flown over along with Alice Pollack and Ossie Clark of the Quorum boutique and staff from London Life magazine (fashion editor Shuna Harwood and photographer Peter Akehurst) in order to showcase British style and fashions at the opening of a new nightclub, the Gaff. London Life magazine reports that, from the time London arrived the scene of the Great Couture was all agog at the girls skirt lengths and owl sunglasses. Ironic really, that London should show them how! Date: 1966

EDITORS COMMENTS
In the heart of Paris's Boulevard St. Germain in 1966, a group of four British models, Alice Pollack, Jean Shrimpton, Twiggy, and Verushka, brought a burst of London's cool and swinging style to the City of Light. Accompanied by fashion designer Ossie Clark of the Quorum boutique and staff from London Life magazine, including fashion editor Shuna Harwood and photographer Peter Akehurst, they had flown over to Paris for an exclusive engagement at the opening of a new nightclub, the Gaff. The British invasion of Parisian fashion scene was a sight to behold. From the moment they arrived, the great couture houses were all abuzz with the girls' skirt lengths and owl sunglasses. The irony of London showcasing Parisian designers on their own turf was not lost on the fashion world. The British models, with their unique sense of style and flair, were an instant hit among the Parisian crowd. Their modish outfits, inspired by the latest trends from London, were a stark contrast to the traditional French haute couture. The fashion industry was in a state of excitement, as the British influence began to shape the future of French fashion. The opening of the Gaff nightclub provided the perfect platform for this cultural exchange. The event was filled with fashionable Parisians, eager to catch a glimpse of the British models and their latest looks. The British invasion of Parisian fashion was in full swing, and the world of haute couture would never be the same again. This photograph captures a moment in time when British fashion made its mark on the Parisian scene, leaving an indelible impression on the world of fashion. The image of the models, dressed in their groovy outfits, exudes a sense of confidence and coolness that continues to inspire fashion lovers to this day.
