In this historic photograph, Prince Albert, later King George VI (1895-1952), performs the ceremonial laying of the foundation stone for a new Nautical School in Poole, Dorset, on July 17, 1919. The site for the school was generously donated by Sir Russell Cotes, a local philanthropist and art collector, to provide training for boys from the Merchant Navy in association with Dr. Barnardo's Homes.
