Cartoon impression of the Russo-Japanese War 3 of 5

Card 3 of 5 - The Wrestlers. A cartoon interpretation of the Russo-Japanese war, acted out by the principal ruling individuals from the International Community. The Russo-Japanese War was a conflict that grew out of the rival imperialist ambitions of the Russian Empire and the Empire of Japan over Manchuria and Korea. The major theatres of operations were Southern Manchuria, specifically the area around the Liaodong Peninsula and Mukden, and the seas around Korea, Japan, and the Yellow Sea. Japan inflicted a series of stunning defeats on the Russian Navy, principally at Tsushima in May 1905. In this third card, Tsar Nicholas II and the Japanese Emperor wrestle with each other whilst the International community watches on, forming up behind the side they are supporting

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures a cartoon interpretation of the Russo-Japanese War, depicting the principal ruling individuals from the International Community as wrestlers. The conflict arose from the imperialist ambitions of the Russian Empire and the Empire of Japan over Manchuria and Korea, with major battles taking place in Southern Manchuria and around Korea and Japan. In this particular card, Tsar Nicholas II and the Japanese Emperor are depicted wrestling with each other while representatives from various countries watch on, aligning themselves behind their chosen side. The image is a satirical take on the power struggle between Russia and Japan during this tumultuous period in history. The Russo-Japanese War saw Japan achieve significant victories over the Russian Navy, particularly at Tsushima in May 1905. This card humorously portrays these events through caricatures of world leaders engaging in physical combat. Overall, this print offers a unique perspective on a pivotal moment in international relations, blending historical accuracy with comedic flair to create an engaging piece of art that sheds light on the complexities of global politics.
