Title: "Charles I with Wife Henrietta Maria and Their Sons, Charles and James: A Dynasty of Kings and Survivors" This evocative portrait captures the likenesses of King Charles I of England (1600-1649) and his family: his wife, Queen Henrietta Maria of France (1609-1669), and their two sons, the future Kings Charles II (1630-1685) and James II (1633-1701). The painting, created by the renowned Flemish artist Anthony van Dyck (1599-1641), was completed in 1638, a year before Henrietta Maria's arrival in England. Charles I, dressed in rich robes and wearing the Order of the Garter, sits confidently on a throne, his gaze steady and resolute.
