EDITORS COMMENTS
Clarence House, London: A Regal Residence and Home to the Duke and Duchess of Connaught This elegant photograph captures Clarence House, London, the official residence of His Royal Highness Prince Arthur, Duke of Connaught and Strathearn, and Her Royal Highness Princess Louise Margaret of Prussia, circa 1908. Located at 35-37 St. James's Palace, this historic building has been a significant part of the British royal family's history for over a century. The Duke and Duchess of Connaught, who are depicted in an inset portrait, were the third children and second eldest son and daughter of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. Prince Arthur was born on May 1, 1850, and Princess Louise Margaret was born on March 18, 1860. They married on March 13, 1879, and had three children: Princess Alexandra of Wales, Princess Victoria Patricia of Connaught, and Prince Maurice of Connaught. Clarence House served as the Duke and Duchess's home from 1893 until 1936, when it was passed on to their eldest daughter, Princess Alexandra, who became the Duchess of Fife. During their time at Clarence House, the royal couple hosted numerous events and received many distinguished guests, including the German Emperor and Empress, who were Princess Louise Margaret's siblings. This photograph offers a glimpse into the grandeur and history of Clarence House, a royal residence that continues to be an essential part of the British monarchy's legacy. With its impressive architecture, beautiful gardens, and rich past, Clarence House remains a fascinating and captivating piece of the royal family's history.
