Born on the 22nd of February 1884, Davies began his political career as a Labour Party member before joining the Liberals in 1906. He rose through the ranks of the party, becoming a Member of Parliament in 1912 and serving as President of the Liberal Party from 1937 to 1940. Following the resignation of Winston Churchill as Liberal leader in 1945, Davies was elected as his successor. The 1951 election was a significant challenge for the Liberal Party, which had seen its support wane in the post-war period. Davies and his team faced a formidable opposition from the Conservative Party, led by Winston Churchill, who had returned to politics after the election of 1951. Despite the odds, Davies remained optimistic, as evidenced by his confident demeanor in this photograph. The press conference marked the beginning of the final push in the Liberal Party's campaign, with Davies outlining the party's platform and addressing questions from the media. The election ultimately proved to be a disappointment for the Liberals, with the party winning only 22 seats in the House of Commons. Davies stepped down as leader in 1956, and he passed away on the 17th of February 1962.
