1882 Constabulary Copy Uniforms 1922

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases a detailed drawing of the uniforms worn by the Irish Constabulary during the period of 1882 to 1922. The Irish Constabulary, also known as the RIC or Royal Irish Constabulary, was the principal police force in Ireland from 1822 until its disbandment in 1922. This drawing provides a fascinating glimpse into the history of Irish law enforcement during a time of significant political and social change. The uniforms depicted in the drawing are characterized by their distinctive red jackets, which were worn with white trousers and a black belt. The tunic featured a high collar and peaked cap badge, adorned with the royal crown and the harp, symbolizing the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. The constabulary also wore a black forage cap with a white metal badge, and a white shirt with a black tie. The uniforms were completed with black boots and a black belt with a silver buckle. The Irish Constabulary played a crucial role in maintaining law and order during a period of intense political unrest and violence, particularly during the Irish War of Independence and the Anglo-Irish War. The force was disbanded following the signing of the Anglo-Irish Treaty in 1922, and was replaced by the new national police force, An Garda Síochána. This intricately detailed drawing offers a unique insight into the history of Irish law enforcement during a time of significant change, and serves as a reminder of the important role the Irish Constabulary played in shaping the country's future.
