Widowed twice before the age of forty, she had first married John Eliot, the 6th Earl of St Germans, in 1918. Tragedy struck in 1922 when the Earl died in a riding accident during a steeplechase race, leaving Blanche a young widow at the age of 25. Three years later, in 1926, Lady Blanche married again, this time to George Francis Valentine Scott Douglas. Their union was short-lived as the Countess's misfortune continued when her new husband was fatally injured during a polo match in 1930. In this photograph, Lady Blanche is seen wearing an exquisite necklace, adorned with pearls and intricate lace detailing.
