EDITORS COMMENTS
This evocative photograph captures Lady Cynthia Mosley (nee Curzon) and her two elder children, Vivien and Nicholas, at their home, Savehay Farm, in Denham, Buckinghamshire, during a sunny afternoon in 1931. Lady Cynthia, the second daughter of George Curzon, 1st Marquess Curzon of Kedleston, was known as 'Cimmie.' She made headlines in 1920 when she married Sir Oswald Mosley, who later became the leader of the British Union of Fascists (BUF), also known as the New Party. Cimmie followed her husband into politics and became the Labour Member of Parliament for Stoke-on-Trent in 1929. However, she left the Labour Party in 1930 to join her husband in the New Party. Tragically, Lady Cynthia died in 1933 at the young age of 34, following an operation for appendicitis. This poignant image of Cimmie with her children, captured just two years before her untimely death, offers a glimpse into the personal side of this remarkable woman who defied societal expectations by pursuing a political career and standing by her husband's controversial political beliefs.
