During the Napoleonic Wars, Gerard served under the Emperor himself, distinguishing himself in numerous battles, including the Battle of Wagram and the Battle of Borodino. However, his most notable achievement came during the Hundred Days War, when he led the French forces to a decisive victory against the Prussians at the Battle of Ligny in 1815. This victory bought Napoleon valuable time before his final defeat at Waterloo.
