Florence Mills, the charismatic American artiste and star of the Lew Leslie's Plantation Revue in New York, graced the London stage in 1923 as part of Charles Cochran's production, Dover Street to Dixie, at the prestigious London Pavilion. At the height of her career in her late twenties, Mills was a trailblazing performer known for her captivating jazz numbers and energetic dance moves. Born in Memphis, Tennessee, in 1896, Mills began her entertainment career as a child, performing in minstrel shows and vaudeville acts. She rose to prominence in the 1920s, becoming a sensation on Broadway with her appearances in the Plantation Revue. Her unique blend of jazz music and dance, infused with her infectious personality, captivated audiences and earned her widespread acclaim. In Dover Street to Dixie, Mills brought her talent and energy to the London stage, thrilling audiences with her performances.
