Jamaica - Kings House, Kingston

Slide showing a photograph of Kings House (also known as Government House) is the official residence of the Governor-General of Jamaica, who represents the Jamaican Monarch, and head of state. When Kingston became the capital of Jamaica in 1872, a new official residence (called Kings House) was constructed at the former home of the Anglican Lord Bishop of the Diocese of Jamaica. This house was destroyed by an earthquake in 1907. Kingston is the capital and largest city of Jamaica, located on the south-eastern coast of the island facing a natural harbour. This photograph showcases Kings House, the official residence of the Governor-General of Jamaica, located in the bustling capital city of Kingston. Built in 1872, when Kingston was designated as the capital of Jamaica, Kings House replaced the former home of the Anglican Lord Bishop of Jamaica. However, this historic building was unfortunately destroyed by an earthquake in 1907 and was later rebuilt.
