Descamps' dedication to the academy was unwavering, and he eventually succeeded Jean-Baptiste Lepautre as its director in 1682. Descamps' artistic style was characterized by his meticulous attention to detail and his ability to capture the subtle nuances of light and shadow. One of his most famous pieces, "The Adoration of the Shepherds," can be found in the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Rouen.
