Born on April 15, 1767, in Munich, Wrede began his military career in the Bavarian army, where he quickly rose through the ranks due to his exceptional leadership skills and strategic acumen. In 1805, Wrede was appointed as the commander of the Bavarian Corps, which fought valiantly against the French forces led by Napoleon Bonaparte at the Battle of Austerlitz. Despite suffering a defeat, Wrede's bravery and determination did not go unnoticed by the French emperor. In 1806, Napoleon offered Wrede the position of commander of the French army in Hanover, which he accepted, becoming a French marshal. However, Wrede's loyalty to his homeland remained unwavering, and in 1813, he defected back to the Allied forces, leading the Russian army in the Battle of Leipzig, one of the largest battles of the Napoleonic Wars. Wrede's defection proved to be a turning point in the war, as it marked the beginning of the end for Napoleon's reign. After the Napoleonic Wars, Wrede returned to Bavaria and was rewarded for his services with the title of Prince. He died on March 12, 1838, leaving behind a legacy as one of the most distinguished German military commanders of his time.
