The Ketupa flavipes, also known as the mottled wood owl or the tawny-bellied scops owl, is a nocturnal bird of prey native to the Asian subcontinent. The owl's face is characterized by its large, round, yellow eyes, which are surrounded by distinctive white rings and black pupils. Its ear tufts, which appear as small horns above its eyes, are actually just feathers. The owl's plumage is primarily mottled cream and brown, with a distinctly marked breast. The Ketupa flavipes is an expert fisher, hunting primarily near water sources for its prey, which includes fish, amphibians, and reptiles. Its large, powerful talons enable it to grasp and kill its prey with ease.
