King Ethelred II the Unready (978-1016 AD), also known as Ethelred the Ill-Counseled or Ethelred the Unready, was the King of England during one of the most turbulent periods in English history. This evocative portrait depicts Ethelred in profile, wearing a richly decorated crown and a flowing cloak, with an expression of deep concentration or contemplation. The image, which dates back to the 11th century, offers a glimpse into the regal presence of a monarch who ruled during a time of great upheaval.
