Born Marie-Angélique de La Fayette in 1644, she later became known as Louise de La Vallière when she entered the Dames de la Visitation convent in 1658, taking the name Sister Louise de la Vallière. Her life took an unexpected turn when she met the young and dashing King Louis XIV in 1661, who was then only 22 years old. The two began an affair that lasted for several years, during which time Louise bore the king three children.
