Born on March 14, 1848, in England, Cheylesmore was a prominent figure in the British Army, rising through the ranks to become a major general. He was educated at the Royal Military Academy in Woolwich and saw active service in India during the Second Anglo-Afghan War in 1878. Cheylesmore's military career spanned over four decades, and he held various important positions, including commanding officer of the 1st Battalion, Royal Warwickshire Regiment, and adjutant general for the Eastern Command. In 1862, he was granted the title of Baron Cheylesmore, becoming a British peer. The photograph was taken in 1935, when Lord Cheylesmore was in his late eighties.
