Born on June 17, 1869, in Paris, France, Marguerite was the daughter of Philippe, Duke of Orléans, and his wife, Princess Marie Isabelle of Orléans-Braganza. In 1886, she married Marie Armand Patrice MacMahon, Duke of Magenta and Prince of Gloria and Belmonte, a prominent French military leader and statesman. The Duchess's striking appearance is beautifully rendered in this colored engraving, created in 1896. Her elegant hairstyle, adorned with pearls and feathers, frames her delicate features and expressive eyes.
