The Caribbean monk seal is a critically endangered Phocid seal, belonging to the order Carnivora and the family Monachidae, which includes the monk seals. This eutherian, caniform mammal is native to the Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico, making it the only seal species found in the Americas.
