EDITORS COMMENTS
In this photograph from the Bath Aviation Meeting of May 1912, a monkey named Little Nat makes an attempt at flight alongside renowned aviator, Mr. Hucks. The image, taken during the early days of aviation, captures the excitement and curiosity of the Edwardian era as humans and animals alike were drawn to the thrill of soaring through the skies. Little Nat, dressed in a tiny pair of goggles and a miniature leather flying helmet, eagerly clings to Mr. Hucks as they prepare for takeoff. The aviator, known for his daring exploits, smiles confidently at the camera, ready to embark on this unusual adventure. As the biplane's engine roars to life, Little Nat's eyes widen with anticipation. However, their flight is short-lived as engine troubles force an unexpected landing. The monkey, seemingly disappointed, looks back at the ground with a hint of sadness. Despite the setback, the image remains a testament to the spirit of innovation and adventure that defined the early days of aviation. This photograph offers a unique glimpse into the past, showcasing the human-animal bond and the fascination with flight that captivated the world during the Edwardian era. The Bath Aviation Meeting of 1912 was an event filled with excitement and wonder, and this photograph encapsulates the spirit of that moment in history.
