EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph, taken in the 1960s, showcases the exterior of the Beech Tree pub located in Bromley, Greater London (BR1 3QZ). The image captures a distant corner view of the pub, with its distinctive beech tree standing proudly in the foreground. The Beech Tree, a beloved local establishment, has a rich history that can be traced back to 1958, as detailed on the back of this print (available upon request). The pub, which was then known as the Beech Tree, was first recorded as being in operation during the late 1950s. By 1961, the pub had undergone some changes, as evidenced by the date inscribed on the print. The pub was part of the Overton Brewery, a local brewing company that contributed significantly to the beer scene in Greater London during the 1960s. The Beech Tree, with its charming beech tree and inviting facade, was a popular gathering place for locals and travelers alike. The pub's warm and welcoming atmosphere made it a beloved institution in the community. Over the years, the pub has undergone some changes, including a name change to The Hop & Rye, but the essence of the Beech Tree remains the same. This photograph is a snapshot of a bygone era, offering a glimpse into the past and the rich history of the Beech Tree pub in Bromley. The National Brewery Heritage Trust is proud to preserve and share images like this one, allowing us to appreciate the history and character of our local pubs and the role they play in our communities.
