EDITORS COMMENTS
This evocative photograph captures the Belgrave Tavern, a cherished pub located on Finchley High Road in London, as it looked in the 1930s. The image, taken in the late thirties, presents the corner view of the pub, its red brick facade adorned with ornate white detailing and large, arched windows. At the time, the Belgrave Tavern was just one of many establishments to call this location home. Previous tenants include La Zeez, Autumn House, Belgrave, O'Neills, Pages Bar, and Drummonds. By August 2017, the pub had been boarded up, with Finchley High Road Securities listed as the owner. The Belgrave Tavern holds a rich history, reflecting the ever-changing landscape of Finchley and London as a whole. This photograph serves as a snapshot of a bygone era, offering a glimpse into the past and the many stories that this iconic pub has yet to tell. The National Brewery Heritage Trust, a leading organization dedicated to preserving the history of brewing and pubs in the UK, acquired this rare image from their extensive archive. The back of the print details the Belgrave Tavern's address, N12 9QG, and its former names. As of July 2018, the pub had been transformed into Resham restaurant, continuing to serve the local community in a new capacity. This photograph is a testament to the enduring allure of pubs as social hubs and their role in shaping the fabric of our towns and cities.
