In 1886, Churchill's father, Randolph Churchill, had given a speech at the hall where he famously declared, "Ulster will fight, and Ulster will be right." The Orangemen, a Protestant loyalist organization, had organized protests against the proposed Home Rule bill, leading to widespread unrest and violence.
