This exquisite hand-colored copperplate engraving, taken from Rene Primevere's "Lessons Complements de Buffon," published by Pourrat Freres in Paris in 1838, showcases two fascinating species of dolphins: the Dusky Dolphin (Lagenorhynchus obscurus) and the Hourglass Dolphin (Lagenorhynchus cruciger). Both dolphins belong to the family Delphinidae, and are known for their agility and playful behavior.
