This handcoloured copperplate engraving depicts the Scholars of the Library of Grand Vizier Koca Mehmet Ragib Pasha, an esteemed Ottoman statesman during the reign of Sultan Mustafa III (1757-1774). The image, created by Verico after Giulio Ferrario's "Costumes Ancient and Modern of the Peoples of the World," published in Florence in 1842, offers a glimpse into the tranquil and scholarly atmosphere of the Ottoman Empire.
