EDITORS COMMENTS
This evocative photograph captures the timeless charm of the Perseverance pub in Marylebone, London, as it looked in the 1930s. The image, taken in 1935, shows the pub's facade in all its glory, with its ornate brickwork, intricate stonework, and distinctive signage. The Perseverance, located at NW1 6UG, was once a proud establishment of the Charrington & Co. Limited, a prominent brewing company of the time. The back of the print reveals intriguing details about the pub's history. In the late 1920s and early 1960s, the Perseverance was a thriving local watering hole. However, in August 2015, work began to transform the upper floors into residential flats. Despite this change, the pub was carefully restored and reopened in April 2016, now under the management of a small pub company, Winnicott, who oversee nine establishments across the country. As of June 2017, the pub appeared to be closed, adding to the sense of mystery and intrigue surrounding this historic building. This photograph is a poignant reminder of the rich history and character of London's pubs, and the role they play in shaping the fabric of our communities.
