Back in London: the Princess of Pless. Daisy, Princess of Pless (1873 - 1943), born Mary Therese Olivia Cornwallis-West (not Sackville-West as the ILN have it). In December 1891 she married Hans Heinrich XV, Prince of Pless, Count of Hochberg, Baron of Fstein (1861 - 1938), one of the wealthiest heirs in the German Empire.

Their union was a sensation, with the press dubbing the young bride "The English Princess Who Married a Prince." The couple settled in Silesia, where they raised their family and lived a lavish lifestyle. However, the outbreak of World War I brought about a turning point in their lives. With the German army advancing towards Russia, the Princess and her family were forced to flee their home in 1914. They spent the war years in Switzerland and France, living in exile and struggling to make ends meet. In the aftermath of the war, the Princess and her family were allowed to return to their ancestral lands in Silesia, which had now become part of Poland. But the political instability of the region made it an uncertain place to live, and the family decided to leave once again. In 1919, they finally made their way back to London, where they were welcomed with open arms by the British public.
