The archaeological excavations which located a number of stunning bronze heads at Ife, an ancient Yoruba city in south-western Nigeria. The site is seen here after the first five heads had been removed. Two were found close to the gentleman on the right, and three from the doorway opposite him. The rest were located in levelling off the floors of the rooms. Date: 1939.
