EDITORS COMMENTS
This catalog illustration showcases a collection of exquisite donations from the late 1890s, following the aftermath of war in Turkey. The Imperial Porcelain Factory at Yildiz produced the stunning tall vase in turquoise and white, adorned with intricate gold detailing, which was graciously donated by Sultan Abdul Hamid II. The ornate Louis XV writing desk, boasting bronze ornamentation, was a generous contribution from Zeki Pasha, the Grand Master of Artillery. A tabletop ornament in Christofle silverware, donated by Ahmed Bey, Assistant Vizier of the Ministry of the Interior, adds a touch of elegance to the display. The ancient encrusted copper plate, crafted in Turkey, was kindly given by Sajid Efendi, the President of the Commercial Court of Balikesir. These treasured items were showcased in a fundraising catalog during the Ottoman Empire's postwar era, with the proceeds intended to aid wounded soldiers and their families. The illustration, a chromolithograph from the 1890s, beautifully encapsulates the ornate designs, Arabic script, and fusion of French and Eastern influences that characterized the Ottoman Empire's patronage during this period.
