EDITORS COMMENTS
This postcard celebrates the historic moment of Czech-USA relations post-World War I, commemorating the establishment of Czechoslovakia on October 28, 1918. The United States, under President Woodrow Wilson, played a pivotal role in the birth of this new nation. Wilson's 14 Points, which included the right of ethnic groups to form their own states, served as the foundation for the union of the Czechs and Slovaks. During the war, Tomas Masaryk, the father of the Czechoslovak state and its first president, visited the United States to collaborate with American officials in shaping the blueprint for the new country. Masaryk drew inspiration from the U.S. Constitution, using it as a model for the first Czechoslovak constitution. In this image, President Wilson extends a hand of support and advice to Masaryk, symbolizing the unity between the two nations. The stars and stripes of the American flag, a powerful archetype of independence and freedom, stand proudly behind them. As the Czechoslovakian people gained their independence, the United States became an influential uncle, offering guidance and support in their journey towards statehood. This postcard is a testament to the enduring bond between the Czechoslovakian people and the United States, a bond that continues to thrive to this day.
