No. 2 Squadron, Canadian Air Force Featured Peter Butt Transport Collection Print

No. 2 Squadron, Canadian Air Force

Canadian Air Force - The assembled men and machines of No. 2 Squadron Canadian Air Force (1918-1920), probably at Shoreham aerodrome (or, less likely, Upper Heyford). The Canadian Air Force (CAF) was a contingent of two Canadian air force squadrons - one fighter and one bomber - authorized by the British Air Ministry in August 1918 during the close of the First World War. The unit was independent from the Canadian Expeditionary Force and the Royal Air Force (RAF). No.2 Squadron of the Canadian Air Force was equipped with Airco DH.9A day bombers and was active throughout the short life of the Canadian Air Force, from 1918 to 1920. (Canadian Aviation Corps 1914-1915 ; Canadian Air Force (1918-1920) ; Canadian Air Force (1920-1924) ; Royal Canadian Air Force (1924- present)) Date: circa 1919

Fleet Air Arm - Grumman Martlet II - AM958

A Grumman Martlet II of the Fleet Air Arm. Ordered by the British Purchasing Commission as Grumman G-36Bs, the Martlet II was powered by a Pratt and Whitney R-1830-S3C4-G engine and had the Grumman Sto-Wing folding wings fitted (unlike the US Navy F4F-3 equivalents, which had fixed wings), to allow them to fit on narrow elevators on British carriers.
