EDITORS COMMENTS
This historic photograph captures the iconic Boeing B-50A Superfortress 46-10, also known as Lucky Lady II, during a time when it made aviation history. The United States Air Force's B-50A-5-BO model 46-10, with manufacturing serial number 15720, made headlines in 1949 when it completed the first non-stop circumnavigation of the world. The daring journey began on February 26, 1949, and lasted for 94 hours and 1 minute, covering a remarkable distance of 23,452 miles. During the record-breaking flight, Lucky Lady II relied on four KB-29M tankers for air-to-air refueling over the Azores, Arabia, the Philippines, and Hawaii. The aircraft's impressive range and endurance showcased the capabilities of military aviation technology during the post-World War II era. Today, the preserved fuselage of Lucky Lady II can be found in outside storage at the Planes of Fame Museum in Chino, California. This significant piece of aeronautical history continues to inspire generations of aviation enthusiasts and serves as a testament to the ingenuity and determination of those who pushed the boundaries of flight.
